Help A Kid Live the Dream Governor’s Report July 2010 My Dear Optimist: Oh, how time is flying by, but we still have 60 plus days before we close out this administration and welcome Lloyd Adams for the 2010-2011 Optimist year. Much work remains to be done and I hope that each and every one of you will assist us in building the momentum for a successful year. A. The Capital-Va. District Fourth Quarter Meeting is August 20-22 at the Fredericksburg Hospitality House Hotel and Conference Center. Hotel Registration is by August 1st. Registration form is attached for your convenience. B. The District Website is back up and running. C. A & A reports are to be to John Downs no later than Friday, August 18th. Currently we have 11 clubs participating. The purpose of the A & A report is to serve as a guide to club activities and to allow other clubs an opportunity to witness the activities of clubs throughout the District. Try it. We can all learn from one another and strengthen our District as well. Form Attached. D. Optimist of the Quarter" Please send in your nominations for Optimist of the Quarter to Past Governor Lawson Headley at l.headley.optimist@verizon.net or fax to 804-559-5142 E. Membership: As of July 1, 2010, we've welcomed the Smithfield Club to the Capital-Va District. It is our goal to increase membership from 17 to a minimum of 25 by September 30th. On a sad note, Sue Plummer, who was designated Builder of Excellence for the Smithfield Club, lost her son the following week. Our prayers and thoughts are with her during this time. Chesapeake held an organizational meeting on June 21st and the Virginia Beach Club has agreed to sponsor this club. The next meeting is scheduled for August 4th. My sense is that there is a little excitement in the air and hopefully this club will join our ranks this year. The Colonial Heights Club has agreed to sponsor the Christiansburg club under the direction of Luke Hearn. Next week is important as Luke will ascertain whether we have 5 to 7 individuals who are prepared to start the formation meetings. I have talked with Mark Tatum and Jim Stivinson about new club building in the District of Columbia and I am sorry to report that under current projections, we will be unable to formulate a new club in their area at this time. Henry Hollander, Lt. Gov of Zone 4, indicates that Green Spring is still in play and we should be hearing soon as to if and when. Henry- go for it and thanks for all you are doing. We have multiple contacts in Suffolk, Va. and I'll keep you updated on this development. It could be a surprise, but we have a long way to go. F. CPA books will be accepted at the Convention in August. A Community Projects Award (CPA) book is one of the requirements for Honor Club and serves as a guide to how clubs have conducted projects ,and, thus, provides the club with the guide to conducting future projects. It also aids Optimist International in acquiring information on outstanding Club projects for the guidance of other clubs seeking a similar community-serving opportunity. All CPA books can also be forwarded to Arthur E. Jones, 5232 Dunleigh Drive, Burke, Va. 22015, to be received no later than September 25, 2010.
