Optimist Club
Community Service Programs
| Optimist Clubs
are serious about "Bringing Out the Best in Kids" and do their part
through community service programs. Since each Club is autonomous and
run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility
to serve the youth of their community in any way they see fit. Optimist
Clubs see a need in their community and react to it. Optimist
International officially sponsors four International Programs: the
Childhood Cancer Campaign (CCC), the Optimist International Junior Golf
Championships (OIJGC) the organization's Scholarship Contests and the I
Keep Safe Program. In
addition, Optimist International also encourages involvement in several
other community activities, such as:
- Respect
for Law
- Tri-Star
Sports
- Youth
Appreciation Week
- Youth
Safety
Optimists
conduct 65,000 community service projects each year, spending $78
million in their communities. Six million kids are positively affected
by Optimist programs. |
Childhood
Cancer Campaign (CCC)
Each year more than
12,000 children and teenagers will be diagnosed with cancer? Did you
also know that one in every 330 Americans develops cancer before the age
of 20? Because of statistics such as these, Optimist Clubs are
encouraged to participate in this program by building awareness of the
disease, providing assistance for children and their families, and
supporting research to find a cure.
The Childhood
Cancer Campaign (CCC) program model is built to accentuate four areas of
service on which members can focus:
-
Support to
children diagnosed and receiving treatment for cancer
-
Support to
families and care partners of children with cancer
-
Support to
healthcare and service providers
